How to get people to buy
Getting your ecommerce site up and running is only half of the battle. You can have the best site and products in the world, but if you don't have someone to market for you and convince people to buy, then it won't do much good. Here we'll look at a couple of ways that you can convince people to buy from you.
Showcase related products based on what others did. One way to get people to buy something (or buy more) is to have a list of suggested products based on what other customers bought in addition to the product that's currently being viewed. You can also list products that are similar, since a customer may not be fully satisfied with the product he or she is looking at. You want to provide as many options on your ecommerce site as possible to get the customer's attention without overwhelming him or her. Keep in mind that people are more inclined to buy a product if they see others have purchased it and have been satisfied with it to the point they have bought more of your products.
Allow reviews and ratings. This goes hand in hand with the above point. Potential customers often do a bit of digging to see how other people like the product, since they are unable to test it for themselves in person before buying it. It would benefit you to offer some sort of review and/or rating system that allows customers to give you feedback on your products.
Make note of when something is about to go out of stock. People will be more inclined to go ahead and make the purchase if they see the product is about to go out of stock. I have personally experienced this while shopping online, especially on Amazon. They make note of how many items they have left; even though they often add that more of the product is on the way, customers don't want to take the chance or wait longer for something to come in - so they go ahead and place the order.
Showcase your knowledge of your field. A good way to assure customers that your products are worth buying and your company is worth doing business with is to have some way of showing them your expertise. You can do this by writing blogs and articles in your field, answering customer concerns on your social networking sites, and providing solutions for problems related to your field. The more you engage and interact with your audience, the more they will be inclined to make a purchase from your ecommerce website. Assuring them you have experience and know what you're doing will make them feel like you're trustworthy.
